For HR and Talent Professionals it’s often not ‘if’ but ‘how’ to deliver a mentor programme within their business. Do you have a mentor programme for your young professionals but need some gaps filling? Or do you want to offer something but don’t know where to start? Or perhaps you don’t have the capacity to create and deliver a programme from scratch? Don’t worry, we can cover all bases and help you to improve the retention and contribution of your early-career professionals.
The Facts
In our post ‘How mentoring could be the key to sustained business success’ we discussed why mentoring employees makes sense for the business as much as for the individuals. It’s a win-win.
If you’re a talent or leadership professional however, you probably already know this and it’s the practical side of creating and running a programme which is the biggest challenge.

Horses for Courses
In our experience, businesses who are interested in mentoring programmes for their young professionals usually fall into 3 camps:
A current graduate or early career development programme is in place.
The need is to fill some gaps, potentially around the importance of individual well-being, purpose and goal setting, habit identification and change, self-driven learning and development or how to tackle the challenges of the workplace.
It may also be the case that internal mentor programmes exist which need some guidance and structure for both the mentors and mentees.
There are training & development courses in place, but nothing tailored to the needs of this group.
The need here is to offer a structured programme to nurture and support early career professionals to help improve retention and performance. There may be challenges with internal capacity, knowledge or time meaning that an in-house developed and run programme is not an option. Something ‘ready to go’ is needed.
There are a small number of individual young professionals who need 1-to-1 mentoring to support them to achieve their potential.
We understand that some businesses may only have a small number of high performing, early-career individuals who they would like to nurture and accelerate with the aim of future-proofing the business. In this case, it can be difficult to find the time and expertise to support them all adequately, with either a group or an individual programme.
We can come to the rescue in all of these cases!

The ‘Why’ matters
We want to make this approach to mentoring accessible and relevant to as many businesses as possible because we truly believe in the potential of our young professionals. We also have first hand experience of how easily enthusiasm, energy and creativity can give way to apathy, frustration and stress if they are not given the support they need.
We know that this generation has different needs and expectations to those which have gone before them. We also don’t believe that they should be automatically expected to live with the workplace stress and threat of burn-out later in their careers that we see around us in the senior professionals of today.
So – we want to do things differently from the start. We want to give them the solid building blocks to build a healthy career from Day 1. If they thrive, the business will also thrive. It’s win-win.
If any of this resonates with you, then please contact us for more information on our suite of mentoring programmes, we’d love to see how we can help your business prepare its young professionals for a successful future.
